(SOLVED) The program ‘docker’ is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install docker

Problem :

When you install Docker with the command :

sudo apt get install docker

and you try to run docker it gives the following error !!

The program ‘docker’ is currently not installed. You can install it by typing: sudo apt-get install docker

Solution :

Add Dependencies

sudo apt-get update; \
sudo apt-get install \
 apt-transport-https \
 ca-certificates \
 curl \
 gnupg-agent \
 software-properties-common

Add docker gpg key

curl -fsSL https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu/gpg | sudo apt-key add –

(Security check, verify key fingerprint 9DC8 5822 9FC7 DD38 854A E2D8 8D81 803C 0EBF CD88)

$ sudo apt-key fingerprint 0EBFCD88

Setup Repository

sudo add-apt-repository \
   "deb [arch=amd64] https://download.docker.com/linux/ubuntu \
   $(lsb_release -cs) \
   stable"

Install Docker

sudo apt-get update; \
sudo apt-get install docker-ce docker-ce-cli containerd.io

to check that its working :

sudo docker run hello-world
